Participate in a Research Study | Westmead BCI

What if there was something about you that could help answer the big questions about breast cancer?

Participating in research is one way women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer or who would like to support those with breast cancer are able to “give back” to Westmead Breast Cancer Institute.

If you are interested in participating in research at Westmead Breast Cancer Institute please email the research manager who will be able to tell you if there are any research studies currently being recruited into, which fit your situation.

All women who attend the BCI are offered relevant research projects that are being offered at that time. Our research nurses attend all our multi disciplinary team meetings in an effort to offer relevant projects to each woman.

If you say no to a research project being offered to you, your care with us will not be affected in any way.

Register4

Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand (Breastsurganz) is working closely with the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) to promote their ground breaking research initiative called Register4. Register4 is an online community where anyone over the age of 18 – female or male, with or without breast cancer can sign up to participate in breast cancer research. It can sometimes take researchers years to find the right people to participate in their projects; Register4 is a way to fast track this. Some projects have been able to recruit via Register4 within days, which previously would have taken 1-2 years.

Register4 members are emailed about approved research projects they might like to consider taking part in. It’s a unique opportunity for people to take an active role in research in a non-monetary way. The projects on Register4 vary, it could be as simple as completing a questionnaire or something more involved. It’s always a member’s choice what they take part in.
