In recognition of his role in bringing international conferences to Sydney,  Professor John Boyages, author of Breast Cancer: Taking Control  and Director of the Westmead Breast Cancer Instiute has been appointed an Ambassador for Business Events Sydney.

Herceptin works well combined with Chemotherapy

The cancer drug Herceptin (trastuzumab) combined with chemotherapy was more effective in improving event free survival than chemotherapy alone in patients with HER2-positive locally advanced or inflammatory breast cancer, a recent study has shown.

Western Diets and Breast Cancer Development

Population studies have consistently shown that Western eating patterns such as eating a diet containing large amounts of fatty meat, processed foods, refined carbohydrate, and alcohol are associated with increased risk of breast cancer. However, not all research has been able to show that healthy eating patterns, such as diets high in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, fish are associated with reduced rates of breast cancer.

Vitamin D deficiency linked to cancer

The Westmead Breast Cancer Institute is investigating the vitamin D levels of women newly diagnosed with breast cancer, says Kellie Bilinski, a dietitian and the project leader of the institute’s vitamin D research program.
