Motorcyclists raise $100,000 in two rides for breast cancer

On 23rd October this year on a glorious sunny day over 1000 motorcycles turned out at The Mean Fiddler Hotel at Rouse Hill for the 2011 annual Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride. Those attending were treated to a visual spectacle in pink with many outrageously decorated bikes and riders.

committeeIn conjunction with The Mean Fiddler and Girls Ride Out, the Pink Ribbon Ride Organising committee coordinated a very special day for both motorcyclists and the local community. With major sponsor Harley Davidson Australia participating in the day, the event raised valuable funds and over $60,000 was donated to the BCI. Regular reports on channel 7’s Morning Sunrise meant the event received wide publicity.

Adorned with pink paraphernalia including feathers, scarves, furry hats and some eye-popping costumes, dedicated motorcyclists enjoyed a well organised and scenic ride through the Hawkesbury Valley. The riders returned to The Mean Fiddler where thousands of dollars worth of motorcycling products were given away for categories including Best Dressed Motorbike and Best Dressed Man and Woman. Professor Ming Wang, Head of Breast Radiology at the BCI and resplendent in pink feather boa, participated in the ride and was on hand to make a speech and accept a cheque from Harley Davidson.

In October 2010, despite grey skies and persistent rain Club Marconi in Bossley Park came alive to the roar of approximately 400 motorcycles at the start of the 10th Pink Ribbon Motorcycle Ride to raise money for breast cancer research. That ride raised over $40,000 to assist the Westmead Breast Cancer Institute (BCI) in its fight against breast cancer.

The Westmead Breast Cancer Institute would like to sincerely thank Girls Ride Out and the Pink Ribbon Ride Organising committee for organising two fabulous events, and all the riders and their sponsors for their continuing support that has seen them raise $100,000 in two years!

This annual event is held in October. Spectators always line the route and are treated to a unique spectacle of decorated bikes and riders donning pink for the cause. For information about the next Pink Ribbon Ride for both riders and spectators go to www.bci.org.au
